FAQ’s: Parking Guide

Parking & Congestion

In general London’s boroughs are very difficult to park any vehicle in, let alone a large delivery vehicle!

Of course you can take the approach of making neighbours aware that you are moving and using your own car or other obstructions (usually wheelie bins and a polite sign) to reserve a few spaces. However this is not fool-proof and can add to the stress of the move if not well prepared before our team arrives.

Please be aware that if the removal vehicle cannot park within the anticipated distance from your property entrance then this will invariably add to the time and cost.

Of course carrying furniture and boxes etc more distance over the course of a job will take much longer. Often the quote provided is on the assumption that we will be able to park within 10 metres of the pick up and/or destination address. If we are unable to do so, we reserve the right to add a reasonable surcharge to any fixed rate jobs.

If parking directly outside your home is restricted (pay & display, resident permits and yellow lines) and likely to be limited on your move day then it is recommended that you apply for a parking suspension or dispensation through your local parking services (see below). This is the only way to guarantee an adequate position for your removal vehicle. If organised in good time (1 – 2 weeks) this allows the council to set up road signs and even traffic cones to alert everyone that on a particular day they cannot park within this area. If someone ignores these signs then in some cases your local council has the right to tow that vehicle so that work can be carried out as expected (double check though as some do not state they can do this and this may affect your decision!).

As soon as you know a potential date it is advisable to contact one of the parking services below as each council varies in how much notice they require (1-2 weeks). The way in which you apply and cost of this service also differs from borough to borough.

Parking on red routes outside of loading bays and prescribed hours will likely result in a PCN (Penalty Charge Notice). We will receive a ticket (currently £65.00 – 2016) through the post in the weeks following the move. Unfortunately this is chargeable to the customer and cannot be challenged as they have photo/video evidence supporting the PCN. Please expect to either pay for this fine upfront or upon receipt. These roads are governed by TFL regardless of what borough you reside in so to organise a red route dispensation on a single red line (double red is a no go area and we have actually been moved on by the police before!) please call 0343222333.

In alphabetical order below are contact details for the 33 local authorities of London and Greater London. In our experience most councils prefer their residents to call them directly however if feasible and you would like us to organise this for you then we require the full cost of their charges along with the move deposit. Please note an administration fee of £10.00 will be added to your final bill. In order to do this we generally need an email confirmation stating that this is what you want us to do. Included within this email should be the full address for where the suspension is necessary, the date you require the suspension and contact details.
